FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Community Arts Center Foundation (CACF) has transitioned management of The Prizery to the Southern Virginia Higher Education Foundation (SVHEF). Effective January 1, 2025, the management and operations of the theatre officially transitioned to the stewardship of the SVHEF.

This transition marks a new chapter for The Prizery, ensuring its continued growth, accessibility, and commitment to providing a diverse array of cultural and artistic programming for audiences of all ages. With the SVHEF at the helm, the theatre will benefit from increased resources and a renewed focus on community engagement.

“We are thrilled for this next phase of The Prizery’s journey,” said Monica Pounds, President and Chair of the SVHEF. “The SVHEF is a strong supporter of the arts and arts education. The SVHEF plans to support The Prizery by continuing the efforts of the CACF to ensure that the theatre is a vibrant and welcoming space for everyone in our
community.”

The Prizery Transition Committee of the SVHEF has committed time and financial resources to make facility improvements, and that work will continue for several months. The SVHEF is eager to reopen the facility to the public. The Prizery plans to resume normal operating hours of 9AM to 4PM Monday through Friday on Monday February 3, 2025. The Prizery will kick off the 2025 Season by hosting the Halifax County Little Theatre’s Production of Nemo, with an opening night of January 31st.

The SVHEF has named Kristy Johnson as the Prizery Transition Committee Chair. “Kristy been overseeing the management transition as a volunteer since mid-December. The SVHEF is making plans to implement permanent staffing by February 1st. We are grateful to the Transition Committee, and the SVHEF Staff Angela Yancey and Liza Fulton for their time and dedication to the transition process,” said Monica Pounds.

The SVHEF is enthusiastic about the transition. “The CACF has long been a beloved cultural institution, and we are honored to take on the responsibility of managing and growing its legacy,” said Kristy Johnson, SVHEF Prizery Transition Committee Chair. “We look forward to working closely with local artists, community members, and partners to ensure that The Prizery remains a hub for creative expression and
connection.”

The Prizery Transition Committee and SVHEF is continuing to work to ensure minimal disruption to programming or upcoming events. The Prizery will continue to host a wide range of performances, educational programs, and community-driven initiatives, now with the added support and vision of the SVHEF.
