Community Arts Center Foundation Announces Restructuring and Transition to the Southern Virginia Higher Education Foundation
September 11, 2024
The Community Arts Center Foundation (CACF) announces a significant restructuring of its management and its operations with a strategic transition to the Southern Virginia Higher Education Foundation (SVHEF), effective January 1, 2025.
Denise Barksdale, President of the Board of Directors of the CACF states,” As we close this chapter at the CACF we reflect on the accomplishments of the organization and the impact we have made in our community and beyond. We continue to hold onto the belief that the spirit of creativity and community will continue to thrive in new and evolving ways in our region under the leadership of the SVHEF.”
The SVHEF purchased the Prizery facility in 2016, with the intent to solidify the Prizery’s existence for the use and benefit of the citizens of Halifax County for many years to come. Since that time the SVHEF has supported the CACF with its mission of enriching lives through inspiring arts and cultural experiences in Southern Virginia with over one million dollars in facility investments.
This transformative change of hands aims to continue to advance the mission of the CACF, but with a revised management and outreach plan. While the transition will have many complexities the SVHEF and the CACF are committed to working together to ensure that the Prizery moves forward with minimal disruptions to events and programming.
“The CACF has been a leader in cultural and community-based arts initiatives, offering Halifax County exposure to arts and cultural events in ways that are unmatched, and their decades of accomplishments should be celebrated. The SVHEF intends to build upon that success” Monica Pounds, SVHEF Chair, stated.
As the transition unfolds, the SVHEF and the CACF will maintain regular communication with stakeholders and the public to ensure a smooth process. We remain committed to transparency and will provide updates on how the changes will benefit the community and enhance programing.
The Community Arts Foundation has been a cornerstone of local artistic and cultural development since 2002. Dedicated to supporting and celebrating artistic expression, the CACF has produced programs, and events that have enriched the community’s cultural landscape.
The SVHEF is a solid foundation with a focus on supporting post-secondary education, workforce training and growth of arts and arts education in Southern Virginia.
The partnership between the two organizations stands as a testament to the commitment of both to continue arts and education opportunities in Southern Virginia for future generations.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors of the CACF, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all of our supporters, partners, artist, sponsors, and the staff. Your passion and commitment have been the cornerstone of our success, and we are profoundly thankful for your contributions. Lastly, thank you to the SVHEF for their willingness to carry the torch.” According to Barksdale.
