Bright Star Touring Theatre Inspires Over 300 Local Students with Live Educational Performances

Bright Star Touring Theatre brought history and music to life for local students through two engaging educational performances, Jackie Robinson and Freedom Songs, reaching a total of 307 students from across Halifax County and surrounding counties.

Students from Halifax County High School, Scottsburg Elementary School, Sinai Elementary School, Tots & Company, Bethel Hill Charter School, and Eureka Elementary School attended the performances, which combined storytelling, music, and interactive theater to deepen students’ understanding of African American History and civil rights.

The Jackie Robinson performance highlighted the life and legacy of the baseball legend who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier, emphasizing themes of perseverance, courage, and equality. Freedom Songs explored the powerful role of music during the Civil Rights Movement, demonstrating how songs inspired unity, hope, and change during a pivotal time in American history.

Bright Star Touring Theatre is nationally recognized for its ability to present curriculum-based performances that engage students of all ages. Through dynamic acting and meaningful content, the company encourages learning beyond the classroom while fostering creativity and critical thinking.

The event provided students with a memorable cultural experience and reinforced important lessons in history, resilience, and social justice.

The performance was sponsored by the Southern Virginia Higher Education Foundation and scholarship funds were provided by the Ann and Sterling Edmunds Scholarship for the Arts, helping ensure that students from across the community could experience the magic of live theatre.

The event is part of The Prizery’s ongoing Arts Education and Youth Outreach initiatives, which bring professional theatre and cultural experiences directly to local students.

The Prizery extends special thanks to Bright Star Touring Theatre, Halifax County Public Schools, Bethel Hill Charter School, Charlotte County Public Schools, and all participating educators for making this memorable experience possible.
